You're comparing gummy vitamin brands. Good — you should be. The supplement industry is full of companies making big promises with fine print, and the best way to protect yourself is to compare products side by side.
SmartyPants has been in the gummy vitamin space since 2011. They're a well-known brand stocked at Target, Amazon, Whole Foods, and most major retailers. GMMY is smaller, newer, and direct-to-consumer. We sell online at gmmy.com.
This comparison is written by us (GMMY), so we have an obvious bias. We'll be upfront about that. We'll also be upfront about where SmartyPants has advantages. The goal here isn't to "win" a comparison — it's to give you the information you need to make the right choice for your situation. If SmartyPants is the better fit for you, we'd rather you know that than buy our product and be disappointed.
For context on what makes gummy vitamins effective in general, our complete guide to gummy vitamins covers formulation, absorption, and what to look for on labels.
Brand Overview: Who Makes What
SmartyPants
SmartyPants was founded in 2011 by Courtney Nichols Gould and Gordon Gould. They were early movers in the "gummy vitamins for adults" category when most gummy supplements were still marketed to kids. Today, they offer a wide product line:
- Women's Complete, Men's Complete, Kids' Complete
- Prenatal, Teen, and 50+ formulas
- Organic options
- Sugar-free line
- Mineral, probiotic, and fiber gummies
They're available in major retail stores nationwide and through Amazon. Price range is typically $15-26 per bottle depending on the formula and retailer. They were acquired by Unilever in 2020.
GMMY
GMMY is an independent, direct-to-consumer brand. We currently offer three core products:
- Vitamin C Gummies — $25
- Vitamin B12 Gummies — $25
- Multivitamin Gummies — $25
Plus two bundles: Energy & Immunity Bundle at $45.99 and Triple Boost Bundle at $69.99. All products are pectin-based, vegan, cruelty-free, and made in the USA. We lab-test every batch.
Head-to-Head: Where Each Brand Wins
Product Range — SmartyPants Wins
This one isn't close. SmartyPants offers 15+ formulations across demographics: men's, women's, kids', teens, prenatal, 50+, and organic versions. They also offer specialty products like probiotic gummies and fiber gummies. GMMY has three products. If you want a single brand for your entire family with targeted formulas for each person, SmartyPants covers more ground.
That said, a wider product line doesn't mean each product is better. It means more options. Sometimes that's exactly what you need. Sometimes it creates choice paralysis. GMMY's smaller lineup is deliberate — we'd rather do three things well than fifteen things adequately.
Omega-3 Inclusion — SmartyPants Wins
SmartyPants includes omega-3 fatty acids (from fish oil) in many of their Complete formulas. This is a meaningful differentiator — most gummy brands skip omega-3s because fish oil is difficult to formulate in a gummy that tastes good. SmartyPants has figured this out, and their omega-3 inclusion eliminates the need for a separate fish oil supplement for many users.
GMMY doesn't include omega-3s in any current product. If omega-3 supplementation is a priority for you — and it should be if you eat little to no fish — this is a point in SmartyPants' favor. We're honest about that gap.
One note: SmartyPants uses fish oil-derived omega-3s in most formulas. If you're vegan, these aren't an option. Their organic line uses flaxseed oil (ALA), which your body converts to EPA/DHA at very low rates. For vegans, an algae-based omega-3 supplement from a third brand may be a better solution.
Retail Availability — SmartyPants Wins
You can buy SmartyPants at Target, Walmart, Whole Foods, CVS, and Amazon — often with same-day options. GMMY is online-only at gmmy.com. If you want to grab a bottle on your next grocery run, SmartyPants is more convenient. We ship fast, but we can't compete with picking something off a shelf ten minutes from your house.
Vegan Formulation — GMMY Wins
Every GMMY product is pectin-based and vegan from day one. No gelatin, no carmine, no beeswax, no animal-derived vitamin D3. If you're vegan, you don't need to read our ingredient list with a magnifying glass — it's clean.
SmartyPants' standard line uses gelatin as the gummy base. Their organic line also uses gelatin. They do offer a "Vegetarian" formula, but their core products (and their most popular ones) are not vegan-friendly. If vegan formulation matters to you, GMMY is the simpler choice.
Ingredient Simplicity — GMMY Wins
GMMY's ingredient lists are short. We use pectin as our base, natural flavors from real fruit, and keep the filler ingredients minimal. We don't use artificial colors, high-fructose corn syrup, or synthetic dyes.
SmartyPants' ingredient lists are longer, which is partly because they pack more nutrients into each gummy (including omega-3s). Longer doesn't mean worse — it's a reflection of a more complex formula. But if you prefer a cleaner, shorter ingredient list, GMMY is more straightforward.
Pricing — It's Close, With a Nuance
Here's where the comparison gets interesting:
| Product Type | GMMY Price | SmartyPants Price (approx.) |
|---|---|---|
| Multivitamin (1 month) | $25 | $18-26 (varies by retailer/formula) |
| Vitamin C (1 month) | $25 | N/A (included in Complete formulas) |
| Vitamin B12 (1 month) | $25 | N/A (included in Complete formulas) |
| Bundle (3 products) | $69.99 (Triple Boost) | ~$55-75 (3 separate bottles) |
On a per-bottle basis, SmartyPants and GMMY land in a similar range. SmartyPants can be cheaper per bottle when purchased at major retailers with sales, coupons, or Subscribe & Save pricing on Amazon. Their Complete formulas also bundle multiple nutrients (including omega-3s) into a single product, which means you might need fewer bottles total.
GMMY's pricing is flat and transparent: $25 per bottle, period. No retailer markups, no price variance. Our bundles offer savings — the Triple Boost Bundle at $69.99 saves about $5 compared to buying three bottles separately.
The honest take: if price is your primary driver and you're not vegan, SmartyPants may offer more nutrients per dollar in their Complete formulas. If you value vegan formulation, ingredient simplicity, and consistent pricing, GMMY is competitive.
Testing and Transparency — GMMY's Focus
GMMY lab-tests every batch and is transparent about our manufacturing (made in USA). SmartyPants also has third-party testing — they work with NSF International and have earned Non-GMO Project verification. Both brands take quality seriously.
SmartyPants' size and Unilever backing give them access to more extensive testing infrastructure. GMMY's smaller scale means we have more direct oversight of each production run. Different approaches, both valid.
Who Should Choose SmartyPants
SmartyPants is likely the better choice if you:
- Want a single all-in-one gummy with omega-3s included
- Need demographic-specific formulas (prenatal, kids, 50+, men's, women's)
- Prefer buying in-store at Target, Walmart, or Whole Foods
- Want an organic option
- Don't have vegan dietary requirements
- Want the convenience of a well-established brand with widespread availability
SmartyPants has earned their reputation over 12+ years. They make good products, and their inclusion of omega-3s in a gummy format is something most competitors (including us) haven't matched.
Who Should Choose GMMY
GMMY is likely the better choice if you:
- Follow a vegan or plant-based diet and want every ingredient to be vegan without exception
- Prefer pectin-based gummies over gelatin
- Value short, clean ingredient lists
- Want transparent, flat pricing without retailer variance
- Like supporting independent brands rather than Unilever subsidiaries
- Prefer a focused product line over a sprawling catalog
Our lineup is smaller, and we own that. Three core products — Vitamin C Gummies →, Vitamin B12 Gummies →, and Multivitamin Gummies → — covering the nutrients most people need daily. Clean ingredients, honest price, no compromises. Under $1 a day per supplement.
The Nutrients That Matter: A Quick Comparison
Rather than listing every vitamin and mineral, here's where the formulations diverge in meaningful ways:
Omega-3 (DHA/EPA): SmartyPants includes fish oil-derived omega-3s in Complete formulas (typically 72-96 mg combined EPA/DHA per serving). GMMY: not included. Advantage: SmartyPants.
Vitamin B12 form: GMMY uses methylcobalamin (bioactive form). SmartyPants also uses methylcobalamin in most formulas. Tie.
Gummy base: GMMY uses pectin (vegan). SmartyPants uses gelatin (most formulas) or organic tapioca syrup base (some organic formulas). Advantage for vegans: GMMY.
Sugar content: Both brands contain some sugar in their standard gummies. SmartyPants has introduced a sugar-free line. GMMY uses minimal sugar with no high-fructose corn syrup. This category is a wash — check the specific product label for the formula you're considering.
Vitamin D form: Both brands include vitamin D3. GMMY's is vegan-sourced (lichen). SmartyPants' standard D3 is typically from lanolin (animal-derived). Advantage for vegans: GMMY.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is SmartyPants or GMMY better for kids?
SmartyPants offers dedicated kids' formulas with age-appropriate dosing and nutrients (including omega-3s). GMMY doesn't currently have a kids' line — our products are formulated for adults. For children, SmartyPants has the advantage here. Our adult gummies may be appropriate for teens 12+ with parental and pediatrician approval, but for younger kids, a kids-specific formula from SmartyPants or another brand is the safer choice.
Are SmartyPants gummies vegan?
Most SmartyPants products use gelatin (pork-derived) as their gummy base and are not vegan. They offer a "Vegetarian" formula, but their core product line — including their best-selling Complete formulas — contains gelatin. If vegan formulation is a requirement, check each product's ingredient list carefully. All GMMY products are vegan and pectin-based.
Why doesn't GMMY include omega-3s?
Omega-3 fatty acids (especially from fish oil) are difficult to formulate into a gummy that tastes good and remains stable over time. Fish oil can go rancid, create unpleasant flavors, and requires careful encapsulation. SmartyPants has invested heavily in solving this formulation challenge, and they deserve credit for that. We haven't released an omega-3 product yet because we haven't met our own quality and taste standards. We'd rather be honest about a gap than release something mediocre.
Is GMMY cheaper than SmartyPants?
It depends on where and how you buy SmartyPants. At full retail price, GMMY and SmartyPants are in a similar range ($20-26 per bottle). SmartyPants is frequently discounted through retailer promotions, Subscribe & Save, and bulk deals that can bring the per-bottle cost below $20. GMMY's price is fixed at $25/bottle with bundle savings available (Triple Boost Bundle: $69.99 for three bottles). For single-nutrient supplements like B12 or Vitamin C, GMMY offers standalone options that SmartyPants doesn't — their approach is all-in-one Complete formulas.
Can I mix GMMY and SmartyPants products?
Yes, there's no issue with using products from both brands, as long as you're mindful of total nutrient intake. For example, if you take a SmartyPants Complete multivitamin and add a GMMY Vitamin C gummy, check that your combined vitamin C intake doesn't exceed recommended amounts. This is good practice anytime you use multiple supplement products, regardless of brand.
The Bottom Line
SmartyPants and GMMY both make quality gummy vitamins. They serve different needs and different customers.
SmartyPants is the right pick if you want wide product selection, omega-3 inclusion, retail availability, and demographic-specific formulas. They've been doing this for over a decade and have the product range to show for it.
GMMY is the right pick if you want vegan formulation, ingredient simplicity, transparent pricing, and the focus of a smaller brand that does three things well. We lab-test every batch, we're made in the USA, and we cost under $1 a day.
The best gummy vitamin is the one you'll take every day. Whichever brand gets that done for you is the winner.
